Our story

A specialist agency for NHS general practice.

Tree View Designs was founded in 2009 by Paul Chapman, our Managing Director. Since then we’ve worked with primary care almost exclusively, building NHS GP practice websites for surgeries, PCNs, and federations across the UK.

We’re a small, specialist team with 64+ years of combined healthcare IT expertise. Rather than reach for a shared WordPress template, we built our own platform from the ground up — because patient data, NHS contractual compliance, and accessibility all benefit from us controlling the stack end-to-end.

We’ve served over 1,000 NHS GP practices. Our support team has handled 60,000+ tickets with a 98.8% client satisfaction rating, and we’re rated 5 stars on Practice Index and Google. We’re independent and UK-based.

What practices tell us helps shape what we do next. A question raised with support can become a clearer page, a better patient journey or an improvement to the platform. That connection between the people listening and the people building is at the heart of how we work.

Where it all began

Built from practice life.
Grown through partnership.

Paul Chapman, founder of Tree View Designs
Paul ChapmanFrom practice reception
to building TVD

It started inside a GP practice.

Before Tree View Designs, Paul worked on the other side of the reception desk. He progressed from receptionist to IT Manager in GP surgeries across south-east London, and later became an NHS IT Consultant supporting practices across London and Kent.

He saw how often practice websites fell short of what patients and staff needed. So he built one himself, working directly with doctors, practice teams and patients to understand what would actually help. Its success led him to build websites for the other surgeries he supported.

Then came a presentation to 25 practice managers in south-east London. Paul explained the problems he had seen and showed how a better website could help. When he asked who wanted to go ahead, around three-quarters of the room raised their hands.

That encouragement helped turn an idea into Tree View Designs in 2009.

A lasting partnership.

A shared ambition, built over years.

Paul first met Seb through one of Seb’s web development courses, learning how to turn a static website into a content management system that people could update themselves. What began as learning became a lasting collaboration.

Over many years, Seb became increasingly involved in developing the platform, bringing technical depth, careful thinking and a commitment to building things properly. He went on to join TVD as a director and is now our Chief Technical Officer.

Today

Still growing. Still personal.

Growing without losing the personal connection.

For almost a decade, Paul built TVD alongside his NHS consultancy work and family life, before moving into the business full-time in 2019. From those first few surgeries, we have grown to serve more than 1,000 practices across the country.

That growth is the work of a whole team. Across design, development, content and support, we share a commitment to making websites work better for practices and patients.

We want every practice to feel understood, confident in the people looking after its website, and comfortable asking for help. That personal connection helped start Tree View Designs. It still guides how we work today.

Beyond the day job

Some of our best conversations happen away from a screen.

Kent to Penrith. A chance to catch up.

With Paul based in Kent and Seb in Penrith, getting together takes a little planning. But visits to the Lake District have become a chance to catch up, share ideas and enjoy something beyond the day-to-day running of TVD.

On one visit, we hired a room with a whiteboard and brought a colleague along to work through ideas together. On others, we swapped screens for bikes and headed into the hills. There’s plenty of conversation about what we could build next, mixed with steep climbs, laughter and simply enjoying the ride.

That friendship and openness carry into our work with the whole team and the practices we support.

Where we go next

Keep improving.
Keep caring.

We started by asking how a website could work better for a practice and its patients. We still ask that question. For us, innovation means finding useful ways to make everyday tasks easier, information clearer and services more accessible.

Paul and Seb continue to develop our systems with the team, combining technical ideas with what we learn from the practices we support. As NHS requirements, accessibility standards and technology evolve, we keep learning and improving.

Our ambition is to keep moving the platform forward while preserving what makes the service personal: people who listen, understand your practice and care about getting things right.

Standards

Built to NHS standards.

Every website we build is designed and verified against the standards the NHS expects of primary care providers.

  • NHS Frontend Design Built with the NHS design system, so pages look and behave the way patients already expect from NHS services.
  • NHS Content Guide Health content written to the NHS style guide, at a reading age patients can actually manage.
  • NHS GP Website Benchmarking Tool Designed to score well against all 50 criteria of NHS England’s benchmarking tool.
  • NHS Digital DSP Toolkit Covers the website items in your annual DSP Toolkit submission.
  • WCAG 2.2 (AA) accessibility The legal accessibility baseline for public-facing NHS services.
  • Cyber Essentials Plus Government-backed security certification with independent, hands-on technical assessment.
  • Continuous penetration testing Run in house against isolated replicas of our production stack, mapped to the OWASP Top 10.
