Introduction

Our dedicated Team Manager Steve joined us back in 2019 initially building websites, with his strong work ethos and dedication he now leads our team of website builders. Utilising his extensive knowledge of general practice, as well as the needs of staff and patients, he designs highly accessible, user friendly and compliant websites that significantly benefit NHS staff and patients.

Role at Tree View Designs

Steve’s day-to-day sits at the intersection of management and craft. As Team Manager he runs the website build team — the people who take an agreed design and turn it into the working NHS GP practice website behind it — but he hasn’t stepped away from the work itself. He still picks up builds, particularly the trickier ones where his knowledge of NHS Frontend Design, the GP Website Benchmarking Tool, and WCAG 2.2 (AA) accessibility makes the difference between a website that “passes” and one that genuinely works for older patients, carers, and people relying on assistive technology.

That mixture — manager who still builds, builder who has now seen hundreds of practice configurations — is what lets him spot the small but expensive issues early. The layout decision that looks fine on paper but breaks for a screen-reader user. The patient-online-services link that’s a click too deep. The content block that reads at GCSE level instead of a primary-school reading age. Steve catches these before they ship.

Background

After graduating from university with a degree in journalism Steve followed his passion for music by writing reviews for the HMV website. Then diving further into the music industry and the world transforming to have a greater online presence he ended up undertaking work in eCommerce ultimately leading him to becoming a website builder for us at Tree View Designs.

The journalism training is something he’s never really put down. It shapes how he thinks about practice content — who’s reading this, why, and is it doing its job? — which is exactly the right lens for an NHS GP website where the audience is genuinely the whole community and the words have to work for everyone.

Fun Facts

Many of us have dreamed of a rock star life… well that was reality for 15 years of Steve’s life being the frontman of a punk band traveling around Europe. They played countless live gigs and released an incredible 2 albums.

Steve’s passion for music continues through his passion to collect vinyl, with over 2.5k albums with his collection continuing to grow, so when you meet him on a video call it’s not a video effect it’s his much loved stunning collection.
